A designer’s day out in Cape Town

With Cape Town appointed the World Design Capital for 2014, there is no doubt that all creative eyes will be on the city in the coming years. Cape Town’s creative community is getting ready to welcome visitors with open arms this year, starting with the annual Design Indaba at the end of February, and the Infecting the City’s Public Arts Festival at the beginning of March. Until then we’ve put together a list of places to visit to get those creative juices flowing.

Cape Town Tourism and Metrorail clean up Newlands Station – Photos

Cape Town Tourism and Metrorail, South Africa’s premier railway service, got together for a much-needed clean-up operation at the iconic Newlands Station on Thursday February 16, 2012. Carrying drills, posters, paintbrushes and other renovation paraphernalia, the team set to work beautifying the inner-station tunnel walls. Posters were mounted while some gorgeous plants were planted in designated areas along the platform.

The kitchen is open plan with a microwave, 4 plate stove and fridge. The lounge has air conditioning, a heater, television, DVD Player and Hi-Fi and opens onto a private patio. Full bathroom with seperate shower and bath.

We took a month’s self catering holiday in Cape Town in February 2011. We found our accommodation, Wedgewood Cottage in Edgemead, on the internet and we can only say how lucky we were that we chose it. This is 5 star accommodation run by two lovely people, Lynn and Michael Wickam. The cottage sits in beautiful private gardens complete with a well kept swimming pool, braai area and garden seating (different areas of the garden to choose from). The service we received in the cottage was also 5 star. Lynn and Michael’s standards are very high and this is reflected in the cottage – we would describe it as a home away from home with the added bonus of the swimming pool. This was our 5th visit to Cape Town and Wedgewood Cottage was the best accommodation we have found during all our visits. The help and advice we received from Lynn and Michael was excellent – nothing was too much trouble. Thank you both for everything - we hope to come and stay again.
